The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program brings educators from other countries to the United States for a six-week professional learning program that includes co-teaching placements at area schools and academic seminars at a host university. At the host university and a variety of public, private (secular or faith-based), or charter schools, participants observe classrooms, team-teach, and share their expertise with educators and students. In their host communities, participants also participate in cultural and civic activities.
The Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) program gives international teachers a chance to learn more about the United States and improve their teaching abilities.

- Currently employed as a full-time secondary school teacher* in an establishment primarily catering to the local population;
- A bachelor’s or equivalent degree;
- Experience teaching English, English as a foreign language (EFL), mathematics, science, or social studies in the classroom for at least five years, including as a special education teacher in those subjects;
- Proficient in both written and spoken English, with a paper-based TOEFL score of 450 or an equivalent English-language test;**
- A demonstrated willingness to continue teaching after the program is completed.

Secondary-level teachers are middle school and high school teachers who work with students between the ages of 12 and 18. To be eligible for the program, teachers who teach additional grade levels must devote more than half of their working time to teaching middle school or high school students.
A special cohort of participants with TOEFL scores between 425 and 450 or equivalent will be accepted into the program. As part of the professional development program, additional English-language training will be provided to these participants.
