UP Admission Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption.
- Achievement of a minimum rating of 4 (50-59%) for each of the 4 designated subjects required for the specific program of study.
- Achievement of a minimum rating of 4 (50-59%) for Life Orientation.
- Achievement of a minimum NSC achievement rating of at least 3 (40-49%) in Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) or Physical Science or Accounting for a degree in Engineering or Commerce, respectively.
- For some courses, an additional requirement may include submission of a portfolio or completion of a selection test.
University of Pretoria Online Application
- Go to the University of Pretoria website (www.up.ac.za) and click on the “Study @ UP” tab.
- Select “Applications” from the dropdown menu and click on “Online Application”.
- Choose whether you want to apply for an undergraduate or postgraduate program.
- Create an account by providing your personal information and creating a password.
- Log in to your account and complete the online application form.
- Upload all required supporting documents such as academic transcripts, identification documents, and passport photos.
- Pay the non-refundable application fee (if applicable).
- Submit your application and wait for a confirmation email from the university.

- Visit the UP website at www.up.ac.za
- Click on the “Study@UP” tab on the top menu bar
- Click on “Apply” under the “Prospective students” section
- Select the type of application you would like to submit, e.g., undergraduate or postgraduate
- Create an account by providing your personal details
- Follow the prompts to complete the online application form, including uploading any required documents
- Pay the non-refundable application fee
- Submit your completed application form.

For South African Applicants:
- Certified copy of your Identification Documents (ID)
- Certified copy of your Grade 12 exam results or
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you’re currently doing Grade 12)
- Email address and Phone Number.
For International Applicants:
- Certified copy of your Identification Document (ID) of your home country.
- Certified copy of your home country’s Passport Number.
- Study Visa in South Africa.
- English Proficiency.
- Medical Aid.
- Proof of IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programmes.
- Copy of University of Pretoria English Language Programme Test (if necessary).
University of Pretoria Fees
Generally, the fees for undergraduate programs for South African citizens and permanent residents range from approximately R33,000 to R50,000 per year, while international students can expect to pay approximately R80,000 to R150,000 per year.
For postgraduate programs, the fees vary significantly depending on the program and level of study. Generally, the fees for postgraduate programs for South African citizens and permanent residents range from approximately R35,000 to R65,000 per year, while international students can expect to pay approximately R90,000 to R200,000 per year.

How to Calculate University of Pretoria APS
To calculate your APS for the University of Pretoria, you need to follow these steps:
- Identify the six subjects that are required for the programme you wish to apply for. The six subjects must include the language of instruction and any other required subjects.
- Convert your final percentage score for each of the six subjects to a point value according to the following table:
- 90-100%: 7 points
- 80-89%: 6 points
- 70-79%: 5 points
- 60-69%: 4 points
- 50-59%: 3 points
- 40-49%: 2 points
- Add up the points for each of the six subjects to get your total APS score.
- Note that some programmes may have additional selection criteria, such as interviews or aptitude tests, that will also be taken into consideration.
