Scholarship Description

The Japanese government provided funding for the establishment of the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) in April 1988. The program aims to give highly qualified individuals from developing member countries of the ADB the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in areas such as economics, management, science, technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. After completing their studies, recipients of the scholarship are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

The University of Auckland offers a limited selection of programs covered by this scholarship scheme, including the Master of Public Health, Master of Science (Environmental Science), Master of Arts (Development Studies), and various Masters programs in Engineering.The University of Auckland is the largest and highest-ranked university in New Zealand, located in the country’s largest city, Auckland. This scholarship is open to international students.

Eligibility Criteria

You must:

• Be a national of an ADB borrowing member. For a list of current developing member countries visit ADB – Japan Scholarship Programme.
• Have gained admission to an approved masters at an approved academic institution.
• Have a bachelors degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
• Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.
• Be proficient in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
• Be under 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programmes which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years.
• Be in good health.
• Agree to return to your home country after completing the programme.

Requirements of Fully Funded ADB-Japan Scholarship Program University of Auckland, New Zealand

• Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of an Asian Development Bank (ADB) borrowing member country.
• Education: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
• Work experience: Applicants must have at least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.
• Age: Applicants must not be more than 35 years old at the time of application.
• English language proficiency: Applicants must have achieved a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0.
• Health: Applicants must be in good health.
• Other requirements: Applicants must meet any other requirements set by the ADB or the University of Auckland.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit the following documentation in full prior to the closing date:

• Completed ADB-JSP Information Sheet
• Completed ADB-JSP Application Form
• Copy of your offer letter to the University of Auckland
• Academic documentation – both academic transcripts and degree certificates
• Certificate of Employment for the duration of employment issued by the company
• Certificate of Income issued by the company
• Certificate of Family Income issued by the company. Must be either your parents or spouses annual/monthly income.
• Copy of your Passport
• Valid IELTS test
