Admission Requirements for Medical School Studies in the U.S.

Medical Degrees in the United State (US) are considered second-entry degrees That is, you first enroll for a  Bachelor’s (Undergraduate) degree in a related Science subject including; Biology and Chemistry) before applying to a Medical School. Thereafter, you can enroll in a Medicine degree that usually lasts 4 years.

However, the general requirement for Studying Medicine in any Medical School or College in the US is given as follows;

1. High School Diploma
2. Undergraduate Degree in the field of Sciences (3-4 years)
3. Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
4. Good TOEFL language scores
5. Letters of Recommendation
6. Extracurricular Activities
7. Minimum MCAT exam result (set by each university individually)

Additional Requirements as considered by some American Medical Schools, like completing premedical courses, such as:

• College Biology with laboratory, one year
• General college Chemistry with laboratory, one year
• Biology, Chemistry – minimum of 24 semester hours in areas of Humanities
• Mathematics (Calculus and/or Statistics, one year (6-8 semester hours)
• General college Physics with laboratory, one year (8 semester hours)
