What is CPN Nigeria?

The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN Nigeria) is a regulatory body established by Act No. 49 of 1993 to control the computing profession and practice in Nigeria. The CPN is charged with the responsibility of regulating, supervising, and controlling the quality and standard of professional practice in the computing industry in Nigeria.

The CPN is responsible for the registration of individuals and corporate organizations engaged in the computing profession in Nigeria. It also accredits and approves academic and professional programs in the computing profession. The CPN also ensures compliance with professional standards and ethical conduct of registered professionals.

The vision of the CPN is to be a world-class regulatory body for the computing profession in Nigeria, while its mission is to promote and regulate the practice of computing professionals in Nigeria in line with global best practices.

The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN Nigeria) and other Computer Professional Bodies ensures all users (professionals) with the use of the computer, Certificate holders, Degree, and other higher qualification get registered and crown with awards, identified in the society.

CPN Registration

CPN registration is the process of becoming a registered member of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). Registration with the CPN is a requirement for anyone practicing or seeking to practice as a computing professional in Nigeria.

To register with the CPN, an individual must meet certain requirements, which include:

  1. Possession of a recognized degree in Computer Science or any other computing-related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Completion of a recognized professional certification program in computing such as Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco, or CompTIA.
  3. Completion of the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program for graduates.
  4. Payment of registration fees and submission of the completed registration form and other supporting documents.

Once an individual meets the registration requirements, they can apply for registration with the CPN. The registration process involves completing the registration form, submitting it with the required supporting documents, and paying the registration fees. After the registration process is completed successfully, the individual is issued a registration number and a certificate of registration.

Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN Nigeria):

The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) is responsible for controlling and supervising the Computing Profession in Nigeria.

It regulates what values of knowledge and skills are to be attained by individuals seeking to become members of the computing profession and advances those values from time to time as conditions may permit.

It creates and sustains a registered persons seeking to be listed to practice the computing profession in Nigeria, and distributes it from time to time of the list of those persons;

Also, it creates and equipped a program of authorization of computer training institutions in Nigeria.

Functions of the CPN include;

  1. To enable an individual to acquire the basic skills and knowledge of becoming a member of the organization.
  2. Guaranteeing great computing professional Morals and Values.
  3. Formulating and maintaining of local and worldwide contacts of members.
  4. Reducing charges in some specific professional services and amenities.
  5. Admitting professional exams in computing in partnership with the Nigeria Computer Society

CPN Membership

Membership in the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) is open to individuals and corporate organizations that meet the criteria set out by the Council. CPN membership is important for individuals and organizations that are involved in the computing profession in Nigeria.

To become a member of CPN, an individual must be a registered member of the Council and must have paid the annual membership fees. Corporate organizations can also become members of the CPN by registering their computing departments or units.

  • A member who has served in NYSC, will join ERP (Executive Registration Programme) and be eligible for Full membership.
    ERP costs N80,000.
  • A member who has served in NYSC will join ERP and will be qualified for Associate membership. Write of CPE 3 exam will be admitted for Full membership.

CPE 3 exam costs N96. 200.00,

PAYABLE FROM THE SECOND YEAR OF MEMBERSHIP

CPN Exam

The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) conducts professional certification examinations to assess the knowledge and skills of computing professionals in Nigeria. The CPN examination is designed to test the candidate’s ability to apply computing knowledge in solving real-world problems.

The CPN examination consists of two levels: the foundation level and the professional level. The foundation level is designed for entry-level computing professionals who have a minimum of OND/HND or its equivalent, while the professional level is designed for computing professionals who have a degree in computing or a related field and have at least two years of work experience.

The CPN examination covers a wide range of topics, including programming, computer networking, database management, information security, and software engineering. The examination is computer-based and consists of multiple-choice questions.

To register for the CPN examination, an individual must meet the registration requirements, which include possession of a recognized degree in Computer Science or any other computing-related field from an accredited institution, completion of a recognized professional certification program in computing such as Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco, or CompTIA, and payment of examination fees.

After successful completion of the CPN examination, candidates are awarded professional certification and are eligible for registration as members of the CPN.

What to Do After the CPN Online Registration Portal.

  • Submit all completed application forms with appropriate supportive documents to the Secretariat.
  • Attach a letter for the removal of the form
  • Wait for CPN membership Induction.

Note: Registered members are required to pay an annual license fee to renew the practitioner’s license.

How to be a member of the Computer Professional’s Council of Nigeria

Membership Categories & Requirements

Membership is open to; Information Technology Professionals, and Practitioners.

 Member

  • People with B.Sc./HND in Computer Science and Information Technology can join with five years of work experience in Computing/IT.
  • People with M.Sc./M. Tech in Computer Science and Information Technology can join with three years of experience in Computing/Information Technology.
  • People with B.SC./HND can join in Computer Science/Information Technology at least three years’ professional experience.
  • Must pass the CPE exams in Computer Profession.

Associate Member

  • People with B.Sc./HND in Computer Science and Information Technology with five years’ experience.
  • People with MSc in Computer Science and Information Technology with two years of experience.
  • People with B.Sc./HND in Computer Science and Information Technology with two years of experience.
  • Must pass the Computer Professional Examination (CPE) II

Graduate Member

  • People with B.Sc./HND in Computer Science and Information Technology with three years of experience.

Technologist

  • National Diploma

CPN Nigeria Renewal

Renewal of registration with the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) is necessary to maintain the validity of an individual’s registration with the Council. CPN registration is valid for a period of one year, after which it must be renewed to remain valid.

To renew CPN registration, an individual must:

  1. Complete the registration renewal form, which can be obtained from the CPN website or the Council’s office.
  2. Provide evidence of payment of the annual registration renewal fees.
  3. Provide evidence of completion of the mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

The CPD requirement is mandatory for all registered members of the CPN. The CPD program is designed to ensure that members of the Council remain up-to-date with the latest developments in the computing profession. The CPD program includes training programs, conferences, seminars, and other professional development activities.
